Grey Whale Cloisonne Necklace
Grey Whale Cloisonne Necklace
Did you know the grey whales are a bottom feeding baleen whale filtering their food by scooping up the sea floor.
They can get up to 40-50 ft long and weigh up to 45 tons.
They are most famous for their incredible annual migration, traveling between 10,000 and 14,000 miles from the Bering and Chukchi Sea to Baja California, Mexico.
Unfortunately grey whales have had a devastating year. Between ship strikes, whale entanglement and malnutrition there have been numerous whales that have not survived their journey.
I made this piece in honor of them, their peaceful nature and their near coastal habitats. This cloisonne enamel is made from fused glass, sterling silver, 22k gold, 14k gold, a faceted moonstone and dendratic quartz.
The chain measures 18 inchesI hope that we make better decisions to help protect these gentle giants helping them endure and continue in their necessary migration.
